Four prior lives had taught him nothing about marksmanship and everything about endurance, and this one proved the lesson stuck: three hours and fifty-four minutes, ten separate run-ins with the infected, one mauling that opened him up to the bone twenty-three times over, and a single firefight that should have been a warning he didn't heed. He walked away from all of it with his health scraped to nothing and came back from the brink, which is its own small miracle, right up until Ssheeeeshh decided the miracle had run long enough.
