deathcaliber3 came back to Sakhal with exactly one prior life on record, a personal best of one hour flat, and the same cause of death waiting at the finish. Five hours and fifty-two minutes later, it was waiting again.
“He survived long enough that we started rooting for him, then the seventeenth bite reminded everyone why we don't.”
By any measure this was the performance of his career: eight sessions of practice paying off in a life nearly six times longer than the one he'd managed before, zero confirmed kills, and a stubborn refusal to die of anything interesting. He absorbed seventeen separate maulings across that stretch, including one sustained engagement that took thirteen hits to resolve, and bled out from full health to none of it in increments the paper can only describe as unhurried. In the end the infected did not so much kill him as finish a paperwork process he'd started two lives ago.
