Twelve Lives In, Man Finally Loses to Something With Actual Teeth

The eighth infected encounter of the run took twenty-three hits to shake, and at one low point his health reading bottomed out entirely, a number from which lesser men do not return and from which he apparently strolled away in good health. That resilience, impressive on paper, proved irrelevant the moment something with claws and no interest in his gear decided the matter for him. His record now stands at twelve lives, zero confirmed kills, and a growing suspicion among the wire desk that the man has simply never found the trigger.

His longest prior stretch, five hours and twenty-three minutes, came on a different map entirely, and his usual undoing has always been another man's rifle. Sakhal, in an apparent act of variety, sent a wolf instead. The paper notes the change of pace without offering congratulations.
